I love speaking to my members and hearing their stories.
Recently, I have heard some interesting stories about views and comments regarding CrossFit.
I thought it was a good opportunity to get the myth busting gun out and blast away.
MYTH 1: YOU NEED TO BE FIT TO DO CROSSFIT
Wrong. You will get fit by doing CrossFit, but you don’t need to be fit to start.
This would be like saying you need to be good at soccer to play soccer.
If you want to get better at something, you need to do it- a lot.
We open our doors to everyone- big/small, young/old, beginner/advanced alike.
Fitness level is IRRELEVANT.
MYTH 2: CROSSFIT MAKES YOU BULKY
Argh, NO! Training to get bulky, eating to get bulky, or taking steroids, gets you bulky.
In fact, increasing your lean muscle mass is very hard to do. Ask any committed body builder.
The focus of CrossFit is to improve all elements of fitness.
Body composition is only one element, and overtime it will improve towards a healthy body composition and beyond, from doing CrossFit.
If you want to get fit, and look healthy, then CrossFit will help you achieve that.
MYTH 3: CROSSFIT WILL GET YOU INJURED
Uh, Uh, Uh- NO.
Training like an idiot, following a poorly designed program, and letting your EGO guide your training, will get you injured. CrossFit will not.
Anyone can get injured, in any gym or training environment. It comes down to 3 things- the program, the coach (or lack of), and the individual approach to training, that cause injuries.
If you follow a well designed program, are self aware, follow instructions well from your coach, and leave your EGO at the door, you will stay injury free and progress steadily with your health and fitness.
Sometimes you just don’t know what you don’t know.
If you have been sitting on the fence, and are keen to give something new a go, why not try CrossFit- it won’t hurt 🙂
